Visionary investing

My investment beliefs

Discipline is a fundamental component of investing wisely and we believe that clearly defined investment principles lead to greater success. Humans are not wired for disciplined investing. When people follow their natural instincts, they tend to apply faulty reasoning. We remove this burden from you by following a structured, proven process.

Superior results can be obtained by developing and committing to a long-term investment plan. We take a long-term approach to investing while managing risk and develop your portfolio while keeping your life goals in mind. By sticking with the plan, it becomes clear that the daily, headline-grabbing news is irrelevant.

Our team has developed an exclusive, disciplined investment model:

  • We follow a strict rules-based process to choose and monitor our investments.
  • Each component of the portfolio is designed to complement the whole.
  • I will select a diversified combination of investments to provide you with the best possible returns for your unique level of risk tolerance.
  • We believe in owning shares in high-quality companies/investments.
  • Our team focuses on high-quality companies in low-risk sectors with sound management teams, unique offerings and sound governance.
  • There are certain sectors we do not invest in for both ethical and return reasons.

Data and science trump emotion.

I believe in the randomness of returns, so I don’t try and time the market, which is essentially a guessing game.

  • I base my investment process on data and science – not emotion. Data and statistics do not lie.
  • Investing is like a relay race – we never know which sector, style or geographical segment will outperform year to year or month to month. Will it be growth? Or value? U.S.? Canada? No one can predict the randomness of returns.
  • By building globally diversified portfolios, we are structured to seek returns wherever they occur without trying to guess.
  • I like to compare the components of our portfolio to a relay race. The sector/style that is doing well at the time is like the current runner holding the baton. As momentum shifts to another sector, the baton is handed off to the next runner to perform. It’s like never-ending performance if you have exposure to everything.

We deliver disciplined, discretionary portfolio management services in a highly personalized manner.

  • I earned my license as a Portfolio Manager based on sound investment management, ethical business practices and my commitment to continuing education.
  • The ScotiaMcLeod® Managed Portfolio Program offers you the predictability of paying a simple annual fee that is calculated as a percentage of your portfolio’s total assets.
While you maintain control of your overall investment strategy, you are freed from time-consuming trade confirmation phone calls.
  • The Vikrant Group will base all our actions on your Investment Policy Statement (IPS), a customized document that articulates your specific objectives, income requirements, risk tolerance, time horizon, tax considerations and other factors that will guide the management of your portfolio.
  • Discretionary portfolio management allows for greater efficiency when making changes. For example, if I am going to sell a company and buy another to replace it, I can make this change for all my clients who share the same parameters with a push of the button. The result is pricing and execution efficiency (versus calling each client individually, waiting for a response etc.)

I understand the importance of designing a portfolio that truly helps you build the life you want, offering you the freedom to spend more time on family, career and other important pursuits.

  • We actively monitor and manage your portfolio by executing transactions on your behalf to seize opportunities and mitigate risks that may arise as a result of rapidly changing market conditions or changes in your personal circumstances or financial objectives.
  • We will meet with you regularly to review your portfolio and ensure that your investment strategy remains aligned with your needs and goals.
  • If you want to draw money from your investments to do something exciting and meaningful, I will find a way to do so tax-efficiently.

I do not watch or take direction from business publications, TV programs or blogs.

  • These are a distraction and, in the majority of cases, have absolutely no relation to your personal situation.
  • I look beyond the headlines that are designed to illicit emotional reactions because that is what attracts viewers and listeners.

I discourage my clients from checking their investment accounts daily.

  • In this age of instant information, it is tempting to quickly log online and see how you are doing, but keep in mind, doing this may end up being more detrimental than helpful from a stress perspective.
  • Trust me to proactively communicate with you if a significant trend or market event needs addressing.
